The Hawaii Stars didn’t hit, pitch or field, going 0 for 3 in fundamental pillars of baseball and suffering another loss to the Shinano Grandserows.
The Stars mustered four singles, allowed 10 hits and committed three errors in a 7-2 loss to the Grandserows on Wednesday night at Wong Stadium.
Hawaii’s three homegrown products, starter Ronnie Loeffler, Michael Kenui and Cortney Arruda, pitched with varying success. Loeffler gave up five runs (two unearned) on six hits and three walks in five innings for the loss. Kenui went two innings, allowed two runs (one unearned) on three hits and struck out two. Arruda threw a scoreless inning.
Reece Alnas, Hawaii’s other local player, went 1 for 5 with two RBIs, belting a two-run single in the seventh.
Travis Higgs batted 2 for 5 with a pair of solo homers and Daichi Takeuchi went 3 for 3 to lead the Grandserows (2-0).
Tomonari Seki picked up the win with two innings of scoreless relief.
The three-game series concludes at 5:30 p.m. today. Dallas Mahan is scheduled to start for Hawaii.
